The University of Alberta and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Have Signed a Cooperation Agreement

On February 21, the President of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Serhiy Kvit and some KMA Faculty members attended the presentation of the first English-language edition of all 10 volumes of Mykhailo Hrushevsky's «History of Ukraine-Rus», which took place at the Metropolitan's House in the National Preserve «Sophia Kyivska». The event was attended by many distinguished guests: Ms. Natalia Tsymbalyuk, Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, an honoured patron Kost (Jim) Temerty, significant historians Dr. Frank Sysyn, Dr. Serhii Plokhy, and Dr. Yaroslav Hrytsak, Director of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies Natalia Khanenko-Friesen, and the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.

The project of translating the 10-volume edition into 12 books was completed with the support of the Peter Jacyk Centre for Ukrainian Historical Research at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta. It involved more than 150 scholars from all around the world. The series of 12 books were presented to Olena Zelenska for her project «Ukrainian Bookshelf».

"Such projects as this one give us a chance to reshape perceptions of Ukrainian history in the West; this is our weapon in the fight against historical myths propagated by Russia”, noted Dr. Serhii Plokhy, Director of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute and Honorary Professor at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

In addition to the presentation, as part of the event, Serhiy Kvit and Natalia Khanenko-Friesen signed a cooperation agreement between the University of Alberta and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
