27 KMA Students on Mobility Program at the University of Toronto

The fourth cohort of 27 KMA students came to Canada to study at the University of Toronto as part of the mobility program funded by the Temerty Foundation. The program was launched immediately after the Russian invasion of Ukraine to support Ukrainian students in obtaining uninterrupted top-quality education.

The program was transformed this year from a semester-long exchange to the whole academic year. Longer duration will allow the students not only to gain better experience but also to contribute to the Ukrainian community of Toronto. Previous cohorts had organized multiple events among which the most memorable were Toronto Ukrainian Week, a remarkable series of events running last December, and an exhibition "Unissued Diplomas" that uncovered stories of 36 Ukrainian students killed in the war.

"Unissued Diplomas" honours the memory of Ukrainian students who will never graduate because their lives were taken by the russian invasion.

Mykhaylo Petechuk, the President of Kyiv Mohyla Foundation of Canada, met with the exchange students to welcome them in Toronto, tell them about Canada and the differences with Ukraine, and, most importantly, to ensure them that they can rely on the support of the Foundation and KMA alumni in Canada should any need arise.

The students were also welcomed by

  • Oleksandr Romanko, Adjunct Professor at UofT and a Board Member of the UCC

  • Taras Kulish, a lawyer at Mills & Mills LLP

  • Tanya Branitska, an alumnus of both Kyiv Mohyla Academy and University of Toronto

  • Oleksandra Novichkova, KMA alumnus, KMA professor and current Ph.D. student at Toronto Metropolitan University

Leah Temerty-Lord, Temerty Foundation Managing Director, emphasized the importance of the continued support of education in Ukraine "Russia’s full-scale invasion disrupted the education of millions of people across Ukraine. The Temerty Foundation is proud to support students from KMA as they continue their academic pursuits."

We are proud of our students and the aims they achieve! We are committed to supporting them and providing them with everything they need for the best education. Join our mission!
